Reserach
In order to explore and analysis colour in a fashion brand, the background of the brand, the colour using practice of the designer and the trend of the colour scheme have to analysis first. Therefore, collections designed by the designer, the culture background of the designer and the progress of colour using from year to year are searched in advance.
To enlarge the researching base, a team was formed. It composed of Natalie, Celia, Sylvia, Chi Jessie and me. We had researched background information of Sonia Rykiel, the collections, S/S and F/W, the colour scheme using in visual merchndising inside the shop and merchandise’s colour using. The research is from magazines, internet, books which written Sonia Rykiel etc from 2000 to present. All the information are posted on the blog by different groupmates.
Analysis
The next step was analysis. It was used the colour concept learned from lessons. Depends on the colour scheme, relationships between culture, psychology, colour in textile. The analysis was mainly depends colour using in the collection. The ratio of colour used on outfits, what scheme did it used, what are the theme and the shift of colour using from year to year.
Sonia Rykiel is a French fashion designer who create the brand “Sonia Rykiel” in A France famous fashion designer, Sonia Rykiel,who was crowned "Queen of Knits" by the Americans in the 19 Century. Her brand was developed after WWII, therefore what her colour mainly in grey tone at the beginning. By the advanced of people quality of life and because of the good economic, Sonia applied more and more new hues from year to year. More color schemes were presented.
After analyzing the collection color using, it was found that the relationship between environment and Sonia‘s colour using practice. In order to study it, some history was found.
Sonia was less influence effect by the changing environment, the colour she used were lack follow the trends from the fashion industry. Many colours are repeated using. It can be found that whatever the political or economical situation changes, Sonia’s colour use are remaining similar. The most frequency used of colour are Lavender, Bright yellow, Beige and Slate gray whenever it was 2003, the economic downturn by SARS or the good economic year in 2007.
Also, the colour scheme using by Sonia was analysis. Sonia always uses Achromatic and Monochromatic at the beginning. She had kept the similar practice until now, but in the recent years, Split Complimentary Color Scheme and Complimentary Color Scheme were used.
Prediction
After analysis, it was predicted that Sonia will remain use the achromatic scheme and monochromatic scheme, which colour are the “sign” of Sonia Rykiel. Split Complimentary Color Scheme and Complimentary Color Scheme will be use again but in more percentage.
We can find the colour using of “Sonia Rykiel Collection“ in next year are remain have black , Lavender, Bright yellow, Beige and Slate. However, it is predicted that a little new element will be use since 2008 is just 40th of “Sonia Rykiel”, a new decade is coming. Light brown yellow, red-orange and bright green may be presented. The key point is the formula of “low value” is remained.
Design Collection
A collection is designed by inspiration from hair. The colour using is the prediction of colou use of Sonia Rykiel in the next season. The whole collection is knitwear as Sonia is called for “the knit of queen”. Some drafts are done and some of them have been posted on the blog.
